Job Summary
The Athletics Department is seeking an Assistant Coach: Women’s Volleyball. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Assistant Coach provides leadership, vision, and strategic planning for the Women’s Volleyball Program. This position will assist the Head Coach in the organization, administration and promotion of all aspects of the Oregon State Volleyball program, which includes and is not limited to the management of academic success, instruction/coaching, recruiting, program management, campus/community outreach and maintaining program integrity with respect to NCAA, PAC-12 and OSU rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
30% COACHING / INSTRUCTION
Provides consultation and expert advice to Head Coach and team members. Prepares, plans, conducts, and evaluates practice sessions, as directed. Teaches individuals and groups of players’ specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice, during season and off-season. Teaches player-to-player defense and offense, as requested. Teaches progressions and drills during daily practice time. Is available to coaches and players before, during and after practices, games, and events. Scouts future opponents by film, watching games, and need and knowledge of use in all volleyball data programs. Engages in lead work: plans, assigns, and approves work, discipline/rewards, and responds to grievances.
25% RECRUITMENT
Recruit potentially successful students to Oregon State and be able to creatively verbalize the OSU niche opportunities in each recruiting situation. The person in this role is required to maintain a current, valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record in order to perform the travel and recruitment duties of their position.
20% TEAM ADMINISTRATION
Follows OSU procedures in handling any monies that flow through the athletic program. Coordinates all enrollment activities of student-athletes. Coordinates all academic services for student-athletes; monitors academic progress; intervenes as necessary. Establishes requirements for team members in terms of academic and athletic progress. Plans long and short-term team objectives under the leadership of the Head Coach. Coordinates recruiting efforts with the Office of Admissions. Coordinates scholarships with the Office of Financial Aid. Coordinates team apparel and shoes with equipment sponsor. Encourage and participate in activities that foster an environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and fosters a sense of belonging for both student workers, student athletes, and co-workers.
15% SCOUTING OPPONENTS & MATCH PREPARATION
Scout future opponents by film, watching games, and/or telephone reports. Equipped and knowledgeable in all scouting and data platforms. Develop scouting reports on future opponents. Provide consultation and expert advice to head coach and team members.
10% CAMPUS / COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION
Interacts with various campus offices, departments, as well as individual faculty and staff members. Maintains effective and open communication with OSU faculty; informs faculty of required student-athlete absences; monitors academic progress; in coordination with faculty, develops academic improvement strategies for athletes. Serves as guest speaker at public events on behalf of OSU Athletics. Serves in a leadership role and promotes participation in community service activities by student athletes. Assists in the formulation of team and department fundraising activities and promotional events. Coordinates community service and OSU athletics-to-school, “mini-beavers” programs. May interact with persons less than 18 years of age in a one-on-one setting in execution of job duties.
What You Will Need
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
