Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Research Farmer for the Animal Care Program, Department of Animal Science within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

• Performs a variety of general farm duties to provide animal feed, manure management, and repairs and maintenance of facilities and machinery to support the field operations, and the dairy, livestock and equine units.
• May guide and instruct others in the performance of duties.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent, plus one year farm experience involving the operation and maintenance of farmlands and farm equipment.
• An equivalent combination of experience and/or related college-level course work may be substituted for the above experience.

Equipment Utilized:

• This position will primarily be involved with the operation of farm equipment for pasture maintenance, general farm repairs, equipment maintenance and fence repair on the NJAES / SEBS farm.
• Equipment required to operate includes skid steer loader, farm tractor, planters, manure spreader, brush hog, chain saw, chisel plow, snowplow, livestock trailer and other miscellaneous farm equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• The physical demands and work environment are working primarily outdoors, including in inclement weather.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Special Conditions:

• Must have mechanical skills sufficient to perform general maintenance on vehicles and farm equipment.
