Able to troubleshoot all testing equipment to a component level. Uses lab scheduling & data storage software/systems. Able to fabricate or modify parts or systems to match design directions. Can break testing into tasks & direct others on those tasks. Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of broader assignment.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct 3D scans of automotive interiors and exteriors using advanced scanning equipment.
Process and analyze scan data to create accurate digital models.
Design and build test fixtures.
Perform interior performance testing and interior capacity measurements.
Collaborate with engineers and designers to integrate scan data and test results into R&D projects.
Maintain and calibrate(?) 3D scanning equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Document scanning procedures, test results, and measurements, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
Assist in the development and improvement of scanning techniques, testing methods, and processes.
Perform light hand-work tasks such as part modification, part assembly and disassembly as needed to support R&D activities.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to 3D scanning equipment and software.
Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in the lab environment.
Maintain and organize lab and shop environment.
Driving test vehicles at test facilities and courses.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or higher in Automotive Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience with 3D scanning technology and software (e.g., Romer/Polyworks, FARO, Artec, Geomagic).
Strong technical skills and familiarity with CAD software such as CATIA V5/V6.
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Experience in interior performance testing and capacity measurement, especially cargo volume and other catalogue measurements.
Excellent time management, attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to perform light hand-work tasks, including mock-up of parts into automotive interior to confirm performance proof of concept.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Knowledge of automotive design and manufacturing processes is a plus.
Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, move and maneuver within a vehicle interior, scanning equipment and heavy components such as seat assemblies as needed.
Comfortable working in a lab and shop environment, and around automobiles.
Ability to drive vehicles in test conditions.
