Position

The Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (AID) in the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington is seeking applicants for a Section Head within the Allergy Section.

The Allergy Section Head has oversight at Harborview Medical Center (HMC) and University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) Montlake and Northwest campuses. The Allergy Section includes 8 full time faculty. The section also includes the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Program, which is run in close collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Immunology at Seattle Children’s Hospital. In partnership with the Division Head, the Section Head is expected to provide leadership, vision and direction to the Allergy Section. In this capacity, the Section Head will assess clinical needs of the Allergy program and work with the Allergy Clinic Medical Director, UWMC and HMC Chiefs of Medicine, and relevant internal and external partners to achieve clinical and academic program goals. As an administrative leader, the Section Head is expected to be a role model for professionalism, clinical care and academic citizenship. Routine responsibilities include:

  • Partner with AID leadership to address Allergy Program needs and set program priorities and goals
  • Collaborate with AID leadership in determining need for faculty hires in Allergy as well as opportunities for clinical and research growth within the section
  • Support faculty development, provide faculty mentorship and coaching, monitor academic progress, and conduct annual faculty reviews
  • In partnership with Allergy Medical Clinic Director, provide oversight of clinical operations within the Allergy Program
  • In partnership with Allergy and Immunology Fellowship Program Director, provide oversight of the Fellowship Program
  • Set clinical service expectations, balancing clinical coverage commitments with faculty members’ administrative, teaching, and research commitments
  • Establish clinical FTE and wRVU expectations for the Allergy Program
  • Regularly review clinical revenues generated by section clinical activities
  • Conduct regularly held section faculty meetings
  • Work with leadership of other clinical specialties as necessary to address service and patient safety concerns

In addition to the leadership role, clinical duties include providing clinical care of patients in the allergy clinics and inpatient service as needed. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage in research in the field of allergy and immunology. Faculty are expected to participate in teaching and mentoring students, residents, and fellows, including clinical teaching, classroom instruction, and mentoring committees. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Professor, without tenure for reasons of funding (WOT). Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in the UW Faculty Code Section 24-34 . Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position is anticipated to start in April 2025 or later.

The base salary range for this position will be: $16,840 - $22,500 per month ($202,080 - $270,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a MD or DO (or foreign equivalent), be board eligible/board certified in Allergy & Immunology (or foreign equivalent) and must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Washington. Successful candidates must demonstrate clinical expertise in allergy & immunology. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
